Fiji Sugar Cane Growers Council will submit an assessment report to Government regarding the cane damage in the Western Division incurred during the recent floods.

The council is working with the Fiji Sugar Corporation to prepare a report which is expected to be completed by next week.

Council chief executive Sundresh Chetty said they were also working to ensure that no areas or farmers were missed during the cane field assessment tour.

Last week Friday, the sugar industry stakeholders completed their preliminary assessment in the reported areas of Rakiraki.

Mr Chetty had earlier said farmers, whose cane fields had suffered the recent floods, must report to the Fiji Sugar Corporation sector offices so the damage they faced could be assessed.

He said after the assessment, they would give the report to Government and process applications for the dispersal of funds to the farmers.

In the meantime, Mr Chetty said: “Rakiraki remains the worst-affected area.”
