Black Virus stamped their mark when they walloped Babasiga Cubs 5-0 during the Labasa Football Association’s Local League competition at Subrail Park, Labasa yesterday. Continuous heavy rain forced the officials to call off the Bulileka Red Devils FC and Nasea FC showdown.

What Happened: Both teams started strongly as they wanted to score a goal in the first half but were unsuccessful. It was in the second half that Black Virus’ class began to show when they scored their goals one after another.

The opening goal came from striker Gabriel Matanisiga in the 51st minute followed by another goal five minutes later by Shamal Lal. Matanisiga then struck again scoring two goals within four minutes. Ilisoni Logaivau sealed the deal for Black Virus by scoring the final goal leaving the scores at 5-0

Comments:  Black Virus coach Ravinesh Chand applauded his players for performing to expectation.

“The team was a mixture of experienced and young players. They did a good job. It is a really good start, with more matches coming up, we will try to be consistent with our performance.”

Babasiga Cubs coach Roneel Ram said; “This is the start of the season after a long break and we are coming in for the first time this year.

“We lost to a better team and these boys are all 16-years-olds, the way they performed with a senior team, it was a win for them though we lost the game.

“This is the break that they need as far as the future of Labasa football is concerned. We will continue to play in the local league as we preparing for the national under-17 league.”
