Three more men have been taken into custody in connection with the discovery of live M16 ammunition found on a fibre glass craft last Sunday in Lautoka.

Police Chief of Intelligence and Investigations, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Biu Matavou confirmed that five men were brought in along with the Lautoka businessman to the Lautoka Police Station.

“Two have since been released but three are in custody along with the businessman,” ACP Matavou said.

The businessman was arrested following the raid of three businesses in Lautoka last Friday and with which he is believed to be indirectly associated with.

ACP Matavou said all four men in custody were presently being questioned by a team of detectives.

“When they have finished questioning, they will inform me and then I will decide what course of action to be taken,” ACP Matavou said.

Yesterday, the businessman was escorted under Police guard to Vuda Marina to identify the boat in which the ammunition was found.

The man was later brought back to the Police Station for further questioning.

ACP Matavou said they were trying to establish where the bullets originated from and confirmed no guns have been discovered yet.

The businessman’s house was also part of the raid.

The boat captain was to have taken the boat, with the bag which contained the live ammunition, to a nearby island resort.

It is also believed that some men, including some businessmen, had met there recently.
