Investment Fiji chief executive, Godo Mueller-Teut said the wholesale and retail sector looks promising in 2017.

He said the sector made more than 20 per cent of the proposed projects in all the sectors for the past 11 months of 2016.

He further said other sectors including the agriculture, forestry and manufacturing were looking positive for the year.

“The number of proposed projects in agriculture and forestry has increased by close to 60 per cent since 2014,” Mr Mueller-Teut said.

In addition, he said the focus was also now on exporters.

Mr  Mueller-Teut said Investment Fiji is currently engaged in actively supporting exporters, both in terms of capability development and path to market programmes.

Investment Fiji always had strong focus on process and compliance, was reactive to inquiries and co-operated with other agencies to assist investors whenever issues arose.

“We are now developing a structure that allows Investment Fiji to become a proactive, integrated, customer focused investment promotion agency,” he added.

“This combines investment attraction, facilitation and after-care.

“This was in order to improve its effectiveness in attracting foreign direct investment, develop local investment and maximise the benefits for the Fijian economy.”
