Debutants Nailaga Under-19 rugby 7s team is optimistic of a good outing during the Uprising Youths 7s at Lawaqa Park from January 18-19.

This is part of the Mana Whey Coral Coast Sevens.

The side includes Ratu Kadavulevu School U16 rep Apisai Tuwai who plays at prop, Natabua High rep Aporosa Ragata, Panapasa Nakasei (rover) and Ba Methodist High sprinter Tomasi Osborne at wing.

Osborne, son of former national and Ba striker Taito Bula, and Tuwai have been playing for the Ba Rugby Union champions Nailaga XV in the weekly club competition. Coach Saimoni Tagitagivalu said the training has been good.

“The team is made up of students 17-18 years old,” he said.

Tagitagivalu said the team aim to reach the knockout stages.

“Our aim is to try and reach quarterfinals and semifinals on game day. This is our first time participating. I’ve always encouraged the boys to keep training and hopefully during the tournament a few are scouted by overseas or local clubs.

“We never know one of these boys might one day be representing the country.”

He added they hope to find a sponsor for the young side and would not let this challenge deter their patience and hard work to come out fighting in the tournament.
