Two Govt Vessels On Stand By At Qamea Island

Two government vessels – MLC Vatulawa and MV Rogovoka are on stand-by at Qamea Island, Taveuni.
This was confirmed to the Fiji Sun by the director of Government Shipping Services (GSS) Josese Lawaniyasana.
According to Mr Lawaniyasana the MLC Vatulawa is transporting water to all the villages on the island -Kocoma, Dreketi, Togo, Naiviivi, Vatusogosogo, and Waibulu.
He said recently the Government Shipping Services had transported machineries, materials and personnel to the Island.
Mr Lawaniyasana said Government workers at Qamea were sleeping onboard the MV Rogovoka.
The recent landslides on the island damaged a school and pushed the Health Centre to the sea at Dreketi village. Also 20 houses were badly damaged. The Dreketi Community Hall was also destroyed.
At Togo village two houses were destroyed.
Mr Lawaniyasana said the two vessels would be at Qamea for some time.
