I’ll Consider Rawaca:Baber

Vodafone Fijian 7s head coach Gareth Baber is ready to consider Savenaca Rawaca back in the squad.
But the Welshman is focussed on preparing the current squad for the second leg of the World Sevens Series in Wellington and Sydney later this month.
“A player of his standard, I will certainly consider him back,”Baber said at Uprising Beach Resort yesterday,
“But my job is not to chase people around the world and pull them back to Fiji.
“My job now is to focus on the players here and do what we got to do for Wellington and Sydney.”
This came after La Rochelle Rugby Club denied on Wednesday signing any deal with the Navatu, Bua native.
In a statement made to L’EQUIPE Rugby, team manager Patrice Collazo said;
“If an Olympic champion asks for a visa for La Rochelle, he will be welcomed.
“But I’m very surprised the French Embassy announces his signature with us. I will carry out my small inquiry.”
In a statement by FRU, Rawaca will not feature in the Wellington and Sydney tournaments of the 2016/17 World Sevens Series. The FRU said he has sought approval from Vodafone Fijian 7s coach Gareth Baber.
“He has being released from camp and I would like to thank Rawaca for following due process and seeking the relevant approval,” said FRU chief executive officer John O’Connor said.
Baber confirmed Rawaca spoke to him and the players informing them about his move to a French club.
“That’s between him and them he came and spoke to me and the players that he’s been offered this opportunity from La Rochelle.
“We shook hands and wished him the very best,”Baber said.
Meanwhile, when contacted yesterday Rawaca wished not to comment.
