Two Sigatoka farmers, who had been in remand for 14 days for allegedly assaulting Police officers on duty, were yesterday granted bail by the Nadi Magistrates Court.

Munitesh Pillay and Ashneel Kumar were granted bail on $500 bail bond and a surety each.

Magistrate Siromi Turaga told the duo the consequences of the failure to comply with the stipulation in the bail conditions making sure that the accused persons were present on their next court date.

Defence laywer Krishneel Chang also submitted to court the medical examination reports of Pillay and Kumar who alleged that they were assaulted by Police while in custody.

Mr Chang said the report showed that both his clients had received extensive injuries.

Pillay and Kumar are jointly charged with two counts of assaulting police officers and one count of damaging property.

It is alleged that on January 1, the accused persons, under the influence of alcohol, assaulted two Police officers and damaged a property of Police worth $45 at Votualevu in Nadi.

Magistrate Siromi ordered both accused persons to report to the Sigatoka Police Station every Wednesday and Sunday and warned them not to reoffend.

No plea was taken and both will reappear in court on March 16.
