The Chad Shepherd-coached Germany team will be using the Mana Whey Fijian Coral Coast 7s at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka next week as a build up to the Hong Kong 7s in April.

This is the second time the Germans are taking part in the annual event.

“We really were looking forward to the event in preparation for the Hong Kong 7s,”Shepherd said. We have training in the snow in the last couple of weeks.We brought a new team and we need to cope with the condition. There is no better place to play and learn 7s rugby than Fiji.

“Our aim is to score many tries and get all our structures right.

“Compared to last year it’s a totally different team. It’s a little bit difficult for us, because we are obviously in the middle of winter back home.

“This tournament is really important as we eye the Hong Kong 7s which will be a World Sevens Series qualifier for us.”

He rates the Coral Coast 7s as one of the hardest tournaments.

“We participated in Las Vegas and Dubai but nothing compares to playing in Fiji.”
