Shooting Accused Gets Bail

The Nadi Magistrates Court has granted bail to a 42-year-old man of Sabeto in Nadi who was charged in relation to criminal intimidation and firing shots in the air without lawful excuse.
Mohammed Talib Khan, who had been in remand for 14 days appeared before Magistrate Chandani Dias yesterday who granted Khan bail on a sum of $2,000 with a surety.
Defence Lawyer, Faizal Koya, in his submission to bail application presented that Khan had been earlier bailed by Lautoka Magistrates Court on a sum of $5000 and strict bail conditions.
Mr Koya requested for the same before Magistrate Dias.
In his strict conditions, Mr Koya submitted that his client on a curfew between 6pm to 6am daily and was ordered to report to Lautoka Police Station every Wednesday and Saturday before 9 am to 5pm.
Police Prosecutor, Constable Dinesh Chand said he was appearing upon instructions of Divisional Prosecuting Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Anil Prasad who did not object to bail, however sought for strict bail conditions including a curfew on Khan.
Magistrate Dias granted bail to Khan on the bail conditions.
Mohammed Talib Khan faces charges on two separate cases.
For the first case, Khan is charged with one count of failing to secure arms and ammunition in safe custody and one count of criminal intimidation.
It is alleged that on December 23, Khan threatened his neighbour with intent to cause alarm to him by firing shots in the air.
In another case, Khan faces one count each of possession of arms without licence, carrying arms in public place without lawful excuse in Queens Highway at Lomolomo in Lautoka and failing to securely keep arms in safe custody.
Khan will appear at the Lautoka Magistrates Court on March 6 and will reappear at Nadi Magistrates Court on March 17.
