Fuel Prices Go Up From Today

Prices of unleaded petrol, premix, kerosene, diesel and LPG products increased today.
The increase is based on the latest review of prices by the Fiji Commerce Commission.
This was announced by the Minister for Industry, Trade, Tourism, Lands and Mineral Resource Faiyaz Koya during a press conference yesterday.
“The price changes in fuel and LPG are beyond our control given that Fiji is a price taker to world market prices for both refined oils and butane,” Mr Koya said.
“Fuel and LPG prices are reviewed every quarter, as opposed to every month, to maintain price stability.”
Mr Koya said the increase in the price of refined petroleum product was because of the declining inventory levels, the higher demands for refined petroleum for this quarter and the strengthening of the US dollar.
He added the increase in prices of LPG products was because of the increase in the published prices, the strengthening of the US dollar against the Fijian dollar and international freight rates remaining constant.
He said fuel was a contributor to carbon emission and climate change.
Therefore, he added they needed to assist and lead the fight against climate change by being responsible in the use of fuel.
