Sevens maestro Waisale Serevi was caught by surprise when he received an invite to attend the first ever Fiji Rugby Awards Night.

“I sat down and thought about it and told myself I have to come to Fiji,” he said on Saturday.

“I came here because of rugby. It’s 2017 and what better way to start the season?”

Serevi, who was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, said the event was the best.

He thanked Fiji Rugby Union for remembering him and the contribution he has made for the country.

Serevi said the experience he got while with the Fijian sevens team moulded him to what he is today.

“I thank God for being the source of my strength, the Fiji Rugby Union for the thought of giving me this award and this means a lot for me,” he said.

“All those hard years of putting players in the boot of the van to take them to training.

“All those good years, I’ve have learned a lot of things, nothing comes easy in life and to be successful we all have to work hard and do our part.”
