New Zealand based- Koli Sewabu has applied for the Naitasiri Rugby head coach position. This was confirmed yesterday by Naitasiri Rugby Union president Ratu Peceli Rinakama.

He told SUNsports that they have shortlisted the applications, which is going to be discussed in today’s meeting in Kasavu.

Ratu Peceli said the other applicants are Telecom Fijian Warriors head coach Senirusi Seruvakula and Ilaitia Tuisese Jnr.

Sewabu was a former Naitasiri and Flying Fijian forward along with Tuisese who is a medical doctor by profession.

Sewabu completed his coaching term last weekend by guiding Manawatu to the Rotorua 7s. Last year, he took over the head coaching role of Varsity, leading the club to the Hankins Shield title.

The Naitasiri head coach position became vacant after Reverend Jioji Rinakama announced his retirement last month.

“We’re trying to improve everything and the platform has been set by the Fiji Rugby Union during the awards night.”

Ratu Peceli said they are going to use resources they have to improve on their performance.

“Right now we should work positively and for us towards the end of last year, we ran into some difficulties, but that always happens. All we need to do is to improve.

“We can achieve the unachievable so the big lesson here is that if no team can beat Nadroga, then it shows that our development plan is not working, so we need to work our way through in order to achieve our aim.”

Ratu Peceli said he is thankful to FRU for initiating the New Zealand Rugby structures that is going to benefit the unions here.

He said part of their agenda in today’s meeting is to discuss how they could strengthen their district competition by including Naitasiri West, Wainimala and Waidina.
