The Government Shipping Services vessel MV Cagivou  left for Gau and Moce Island in Lau on Monday night.

This was confirmed to the Fiji Sun by the GSS director Josese Lawaniyasana.

He said they had received a request from the Ministry of Education (MOE) for a vessel to go to Moce as some teachers and students were stranded on the island.

“I suspect that there is no vessel serving the island so they were responding positively to the request,” Mr Lawaniyasana said.

He said the vessel was also taking passengers to Gau and Moce.

Mr Lawaniyasana said they had not received another request for their vessels to be used by other ministries.

Currently he said the MLC Vatulawa and MV Rogovoka were on stand-by at Qamea Island, Taveuni.

The MLC Vatulawa is taking water to the villages and the MV Rogovoka has been used for sleeping by civil servants working on the island after the land slide caused by the tropical depression (TD04) last month.
