Rachael Bativakaloloma, 19, is looking forward to playing against her Fijian sisters during the Mana Whey Fijian Coral Coast 7s at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka today.

She will represent the Japanese national team in the Crest Na Iri Trophy competition.

“It is so exciting to be here and participate at the Mana Whey Coral Coast 7s for the first time,” she said.

“It will be very tough playing against my fellow Fijians.”

Her father is from Naicabecabe, Motoriki in Lomaiviti while her Mum is Japanese.

She has been playing rugby for the last 15 years and made her debut for the national team five years ago.

“My family supports me and I would like to keep on representing Japan. I play at No.3 in 7s and No.7 in 15s,” Bativakaloloma said.

She has two other siblings who also play rugby.

Coach Hitoshi Inada said the team had been preparing very well for their debut in Fiji.

“We have never played a tournament in Fiji before.

“The young side needs to learn from other countries like Fiji and that is why we are here.”

The side is captained by Mayu Shimizua and the team is in Pool F with Nadi Blazers, Striders and Coastal Owls.
