The Oceania Confederation Qualifiers (OFC) Stage 3 for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia will be held at the newly renovated Churchill Park in Lautoka.

The Vodafone Fijian national team will play their first OFC Stage three qualifiers against New Zealand on March 25 and will play their away match at Wellington’s Westpac Stadium on March 28.

National coach Christophe Gamel said the All Whites was a strong team but when it comes to football, nothing is impossible.

“I’ve seen NZ play and they are a very strong team,” Gamel said.

“They are very much organised and some of their players played overseas.

“But when it comes to football, even though they look strong on paper it does not always mean there is not a chance for us.

“We will have a very tough game, I can assure you that but hard does not always mean impossible.”

Gamel said playing football was not all about winning.

“I want the players to focus on having fun and playing the game,” he said.

“They need to learn and repeat what they have learnt until they get it right.

“I am pleased with the players and how they have been making the effort to apply what I have been teaching them.

“It has been three days now and I see some slight changes which is a positive thing for us. I’m keeping the pressure on them and I will keep this pressure no matter the result of the games we play.”

Fiji qualified for the OFC Stage 3 qualifiers after finishing third in their group during the OFC Nations Cup last year.

OFC president David Chung is expecting a competitive round of matches and a huge following after the success of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup and the OFC Nations Cup in Papua New Guinea last year

Meanwhile, PNG will take on Tahiti at Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby on March 23 while their return leg will take place at Stade Pater in Papeete, Tahiti on March 28.
