NewWorld Hands $26,000 Cheque To Fiji Cancer Society For Vital Support

NewWorld Limited handed a cheque of $26,000 to the Fiji Cancer Society yesterday.
The cheque was given by New World’s marketing coordinator, Maawiyaa Begum to Fiji Cancer Society manager, Belinda Chen, at the NewWorld office in Viria East Road, Vatuwaqa.
This donation was part of the company’s Pinktober and Movember campaign which they ran last year.
Mrs Begum said NewWorld participated in many charity drives.
“This was the biggest charity drive from NewWorld Limited,” Mrs Begum said.
Mrs Chen said they were grateful for the handover and they would be using the funds in areas that were vital to the society.
“Transportation is vital, especially when we need to transport patients from their homes,” Mrs Chen said.
“We are looking at sourcing medical equipment for the hospital to help them with the testing, in particular breast cancer.
“We also purchase chemo drugs, only if there is a lack of medicine.”
She added they would be doing psycho-social support and increasing their volunteer base.
“We will be relooking at our membership,” Mrs Chen said.
“In particular what we can offer to corporate organisations such as NewWorld, because not only are they able to provide us with necessary funds but we can provide them with the free screening service, not only for breasts but for Pap smear as well.”
Mrs Chen said they would focus on improving their patient care and family support this year and providing a help line for the public.
