A Bilalevu farmer of Sigatoka yesterday could not stop expressing his appreciation after a tractor worth $72,500 was handed to him.

“I am so happy after receiving this tractor, as this will lighten the load and support me in carrying out my work on the farm,” said 44-year-old Ravindra Singh.

“Having a farm is not an easy job, it more like a business and I would like to thank the Ministry for this opportunity and hearing our complaints and fulfilling our needs.”

The tractor that was given with a disc plough was made possible under the Farm Mechanisation programme.

The programme is a two-third contribution by the ministry after the farmer contributed one third of the cost.

The tobacco and vegetable farmer also paid tribute to his parents for their guidance.

Mr Singh has four blocks of land in the Waya settlement in Bemana, an 18-acre leased land and a five-block share farming in Bilalevu.

Permanent Secretary for Ministry for Agriculture Jitendra Singh applauded the hard work and perseverance of farmers like Mr Singh
