Former Vodafone Fijians 7s manager Ropate Kauvesi says the Wellington 7s is one of the toughest destinations to conquer on the World Sevens Series.

And the onus is on the Gareth Baber-coached team to win the battle at the Caketin on January 28-29.

Fiji is in Pool B with World Seven Series leader South Africa, Australia and Japan.

“It always tough playing and winning in New Zealand. But to win on New Zealand soil is always satisfying,” he said.

“We got South Africa in our pool and that is one game the boys are looking forward to.

“I know they will go out there and enjoy it because Fiji likes playing when it gets tough.”

He admitted playing at the Caketin will tough and should bring the best out of the side.

The last time Fiji won at New Zealand’s capital was in 2010.

“We’ve a tough pool and the boys talked about it during our flight back from South Africa after the Cape Town Sevens last month.

“They know that they have to pull up their socks and work hard.”

Meanwhile, Kauvesi also unveiled a plaque dedicated to the Fijian Olympians team at Sigatoka Town on Wednesday.

“Having the team in the Walk of Fame along other rugby legends is huge. I can’t say thank you enough to the Mana Whey Coral Coast 7s organisers.”
