The University of the South Pacific will introduce three new courses at the Pacific Technical and Further Education (TAFE) programme from semester one this year.

The new courses are Diploma in Counselling  (Level 5), Certificate III in Small Business Development and Management; and Certificate III in Patisserie.

USP Pacific TAFE director Hasmukh Lal said the new courses had been developed based on the skills demand in the region in the relevant workforce sector.

“We have introduced three courses which throughout the USP campuses in the Pacific have shown much interest in,” Mr Lal said.

“The new programmes will be offered in Suva and Nadi for the students from semester I, 2017.”

The Diploma in Counselling programme is in close consultation with certified counsellors in Fiji and the Australian Counselling Association.

The requirement for the counseling course is a pass in Year 12 with English with minimum of a year experience.

Certificate III in Small Business Development and Management is designed to support individuals who already manage their own business, but do not have entrepreneurial training.

The requirement is a pass in Year 10 with English.

Certificate III in Patisserie is another addition to the Tourism and Hospitality programme to serve in the tourism industry in the region.
