The Fiji Cancer Society (FCS) has appointed Belinda Chan to the role of chief executive officer (CEO) of the society.

Society board chairman Phillip Low said appointing Ms Chan as CEO was a decision the board made after long deliberations over a few months.

Mr Low highlighted that Ms Chan (who has been the society manager since 2015), had worked tirelessly with the board over the past 18 months to rebuild and shape the work of the society.

“The board now feels that moving forward, some 24 months later- that the FCS is ready to once again become a fully structured organisation with Belinda in place as our CEO, reporting to the board,” Mr Low said.

“Belinda will be tasked with building her new team at FCS and also putting in policies alongside the board to ensure that there is no repeat of 2012.

“She has an even more challenging road ahead for her as we move the Fiji Cancer Society into the next phase of our work.”

He said Ms Chang had shown great passion for Fiji Cancer and its patients and clients.

“She has helped create a network of survivors that now assist with the counselling of newly diagnosed patients among other initiatives in her current role as society manager,” Mr Low said.

“She has been a true champion of our cause leading her small group of volunteers over the past 18 months to raise record-amounts of donations, build new and strong corporate partnerships, and stronger relationships with our stakeholders and other organisations similar to the society.

“With her back ground in psychology and business administration, it was a natural choice for the board to appoint Belinda to this role.”

Ms Chan graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Psychology and Public Administration in 2011 and a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychology in 2014 from the University of the South Pacific.

She has held various roles with Williams & Goslings, TNT UNISPEED, National MBF Finance, Carlton Brewery and Paradise Beverages.

The newly appointed CEO said: “I am delighted to have been appointed to this role and I look forward to the new challenges the board has set for me, and the ultimate outcomes of raising awareness on cancer and improving the situations of our patients and clients.”
