Friends and families gathered at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Suva yesterday to pay their final respects to former journalist, Mary Johns-Rauto.

Mrs Johns-Rauto was battling cancer since February last year. She died last Sunday.

Former work colleague, Frederica Elbourne, said she suffered in silence and never showed her pain.

“She was just jovial, had a great sense of humour and great work ethics in regards to critiquing articles,” said Ms Elbourne.

Another colleague, Elenoa Baselala, said her family was always important to her and she would surely be missed.

“She was hardworking, a great friend, and was a true journalist to the end. Even in her pain, she attempted to come to work several times,” she said.

Mrs Johns-Rauto, 41, had a colourful journalism career spanning over 20 years. She worked as a reporter, a feature writer and was a senior sub-editor before her passing.

As per her request mourners converged in their colourful attire at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Suva to pay their final respects.

Mrs Johns-Rauto was laid to rest at the Suva Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Percy and their four children.
