The Government Shipping Services (GSS) vessel the MV Cagivou has taken a team from the Ministry of Health to the Lau group.

GSS director Josese Lawaniyasana confirmed to the Fiji Sun that the MV Cagivou left last Sunday, January 22.

The vessel, he said, had been engaged for 11 days.

“It is expected that the Cagivou  will return to Suva on Thursday 2nd February 2017,” Mr Lawaniyasana said.

He said that some teachers who were on their first posting were also on the same trip.

Meanwhile, a media release from the Department of Information said, the medical team was led by the Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services, Mr Alexander O’ Connor.

The objective of the tour was to visit the various health centres and nursing stations in the Lau Group. A team of 24 staff from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services are part of this entourage that will participating in the 11-day tour.

During this Medical Tour, Mr O’ Connor and the health team will visit the following islands to inspect health facilities and hold discussions with the health staff and communities on the way forward to improve the health service deliveries on the maritime islands.

The health team will visit 18 communities: Moala, Matuku, Totoya, Ono-i-Lau, Vatoa, Ogea, Fulaga, Kabara, Namuka-i-Lau, Komo, Moce, Oneata, Lakeba, Vanuavatu, Nayau, Cicia, Tuvuca, Vanuabalavu and Yacata.
