Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama yesterday encouraged residents to utilise the new facility with their families at the newly-opened Tikaram Park in Lami.

While opening the new refurbished park which is now solar-generated, Mr Bainimarama said Lami was a prominent township.

“Lami is home to 20,000 Fijians and hundreds of thriving businesses,” he said.

He said the park was the latest landmark for Lami.

“This beautiful new park is the first of its kind for Lami; a town that has enjoyed tremendous development over the past 10 years,” he said.

“The people of Lami now have a beautiful high-quality park facility at their disposal.”

He encouraged Lami residents to make good use of the new park.

“I encourage all of you to take some time out of your busy lives to enjoy with your children and your loved ones, relax and take in everything this new park has to offer,” Mr Bainimarama said.

He said it was one of Government’s priorities to oversee the construction of sporting facilities, parks and courts.

Mr Bainimarama said it was part of their campaign against the unacceptably high prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Fiji.

He said they had gone to great lengths to provide every Fijian the resources and support they needed to make sport and physical exercise a bigger part of their lives.

Mr Bainimarama said the refurbished park provided something to offer Fijians of all ages and from all walks of life.
