The Biosecurity Authority of Fiji (BAF) has recruited seventeen new biosecurity officers to help enhance the authority’s services.

BAF Executive Chairman Mr Xavier Khan said the new Biosecurity Officers will be invaluable in meeting the Authority’s goals and objectives while meeting the Fijian Government’s vision to improve services at remote locations.

Mr Khan said because of the growth in economic activities in the seaports and airports, additional biosecurity officers were required as a proactive measure to prevent breaches of biosecurity laws at the Fijian border and collaborate with border agency s other illegal activities such as bioterrorism, drug smuggling and money laundering.

“The recruitment of the new biosecurity officers has been enabled through the operational grants received from the Government. “It is in line with Fijian Government’s commitment to unquestionable quarantine services at all ports of entry and also to remote and outer islands,” he said.

A week-long induction program was held for the recruits.
