Guests and staff members of Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort and Spa last night witnessed jubilant celebrations marking the beginning of the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Rooster.

The Resort’s newly-appointed general manager, Francis Lee, said the celebrations would continue as the resort would soon be hosting more than 200 visitors from mainland China.

Extending his well-wishes for the New Year, Mr Lee acknowledged the importance of using such times to host traditional celebrations in a multicultural Fiji.

“I would like to wish a Happy Chinese New Year to everybody and a good lunar Chinese New Year,” Mr Lee said.

He said the reason to celebrate something like this was because it was important to the Chinese community.

“It is something that is very traditional and in Fiji we are a multiracial country, so I think it is only fair that we do everything we possibly can to share our culture and traditions,” he said.

Mr Lee hoped that the year would only bring peace and prosperity to everyone including those at the resort.
