Vodafone Fijian 7s playmaker, Jerry Tuwai was the star of their 26-10 win over defending Wellington 7s champions New Zealand in today’s Cup quarterfinals.
Tuwai who scored their third try from a scrum move late in the first half made several try saving tackles that denied Sherwin Stowers and Iopu Iopu from scoring when they mounted the pressure in the second spell.
Veteran winger Joeli Lutumailagi ran in the two opening tries for a 14-0 lead before Tuwai set-up Jasa Veremalua to run in their final try while New Zealand’s tries came from DJ Forbes and Tim Mikkelson.
The Gareth Baber coached-side now face Scotland in the Cup semi-finals later today.
