After a successful 2016, Nadi based small tiling and building services company is looking to set up an office-proper and expand its operations nationwide.

Absolute Quality Tilers and Building Services Limited, owned by Abhishek Lal, started off eight years ago with a dollar and has now made Mr Lal more confident in achieving his goals.

Mr Lal, who felt the brunt of being a school dropout, now employs dropouts but encourages them to study at vocational colleges.

He currently employs 12 staff who have been unsuccessful in academics but now employ their trades skills and help grow the business.

Job, money and a decent living was Mr Lal’s priority and therefore, the 32-year-old started up with his own tiling, joinery and maintenance business.

Prior to this, Mr Lal, in search of decent job scooped a scholarship to study at Australia-Pacific Technical College (APTC) and after that he decided to explore his skill set in partnership with his brother and friend.

“2016 was a record year for us as my team handled a lot of big projects and this has made us more confident in achieving our motive,” Mr Lal said.

He recalled how he started off doing minor works but now he said they were contracted to many big hotels and resorts in Nadi.

“Now that we have big jobs, I understand that we have shortage of people who are skilled in trade jobs in our country and this could be because people belittle our job,” Mr Lal said.

Unfortunately, Mr Lal said over the years of his operation at sites, he and his team had been looked down upon and treated even badly.

But his message was: “Every work has its own value, if we would not do this then who would?”

Each work has its own purpose of existence, he added.

He has encouraged others who could not excel in their academics to apply their skills and talents and trade areas and to not be belittled by others comments.

Apart from this, Mr Lal’s company has won five awards in 2015.

The award include National Young Fijian of the Year,  Prime Minister’s award young entrepreneur of year, Best project of the year, RBF businesses recognition of the year and  National Youth volunteer of the year.
