Defending champions Y Maro was held to a 1-1 draw by Breeze Marketing Cosmos III in the 3rd Island Pacific Apparel sponsored Futsal Carnival at the Nadi Muslim College grounds yesterday.

Cosmos III featuring the likes of prominent Nadi district reps Napolioni Qasevakatini, and Luke Rawadamu gave a good challenge in their first pool clash.

Qasevakatini was in top form when his well-place shot beat goalkeeper Pramesh Prasad in the first half as they led 1-0. But lanky Andrew Naicker equalised for the champions as they kept their hopes alive.

Y Maro featured Nadroga players like Gerard Voi, Pramesh Prasad, Alvin Singh, and Shivneel Singh.

Y Maro manager Irfaan Buksh told SUNsports that they expected tough matches to test their armoury.

“We are on track despite the 1-1 draw in our opening match, and we won the second match by default,” he said.

“Good to note that we ended the first day of competition unbeaten and we hope to win our next match tomorrow. Things will be tough in competition like this but we are optimistic of a good outing.”

Cosmos III later in the day upset Northpole Friends 1- 0 through a Qasevakatini goal.

Northpole had the services of seasoned Nathan Kumar, Ravinesh Karan Singh, Mira Shahib, and Dinesh Mudaliar but were not on target.
