Quinlan In London For Fight

IBO world super middleweight champion Renold Vatubua Quinlan has arrived in London ahead of his first title defence against Chris Eubank Junior next Saturday.

Quinlan’s preparation for the fight hasn’t changed, despite the magnitude of the bout and skill of his opponent increasing.

It will be his first match overseas but the 27-year-old Fijian and Aborigine extraction said he would have a lot of fans because of Eubank’s arrogance.

World boxing pound-to-pound king Andre Ward has called on Eubank to stay focus on this important fight.

The undefeated 32-year-old, who defeated Sergey Kovalev in November, last year to take his place as the world’s best fighter, has urged Eubank Jr. not to think about mixing it with the likes of James DeGale and George Groves until he secures the championship against the tough Quinlan.

“This is going to be an entertaining fight between two hungry fighters who are both looking to put themselves on the map,” Ward told ITV Box Office.

“Chris Eubank Jnr has said he wants fights with some of the big names in the super middleweight division but he will have to get through Renold Quinlan first.

“This is a fresh start for him after an eight-month absence from the ring and he will be fighting for the first time under his new promoter.

“Renold Quinlan is certainly no pushover and doesn’t seem the least bit intimidated about fighting 10,000 miles from home. He doesn’t have the experience Eubank has, but his knockout win over Daniel Geale proved that he is comfortable in the role of an underdog and that he will be coming to fight in his first bout outside Australia,” he added.

Eubank is a strong favourite to overwhelm Quinlan in what will be an ITV Box Office first on February 4, whilst the Brighton man will also be making his debut at the weight following some success at 160 pounds.
