The Department of Immigration will wait for the Iranian refugee to present himself to them.

Director for Immigration Nemani Vuniwaqa yesterday said the Manus Island refugee Loghman Sawari was expected to present himself yesterday however he did not turn up.

Mr Vuniwaqa said the department would now wait for him to come forward.

He said the department had to consider that Mr Sawari had travelled on alleged fake documents.

“We will make further comments once we are able to meet him,” Mr Vuniwaqa said.

Mr Sawari who has taken shelter at a home in Nadi, said he was unsure when he would present himself to the Immigration Department.

He said he would wait for his lawyer’s instructions.

Mr Sawari had arrived in the country last week on alleged fake documents.

He was in a detention centre on Manus Isalnd in Papua New Guinea for three and one half years before he escaped because of what he described as continuous cruel treatment against him there.

Aman Ravindra Singh has confirmed he is the lawyer for Mr Sawari.

He could not make further comments in regards to Mr Sawari’s meeting with Immigration because  things were very sensitive.

“One slip and things will turn,”  he said.
