Northland Rugby is concerned over players’ fitness during the first trial at Gatward Park, Korovou last Saturday.

Northland Rugby chairman Simione Naiduki was surprised to see players turning up unfit.

“It seems players are still in the festive mood instead of preparing for the new rugby season.

“We need players to be committed and dedicated as we gear up to the new season,” Naiduki said.

He said they need players who are targeting a career in 15s rugby.

“There are a lot of sevens’ tournaments happening around the country which most of our players are involved in. But we need players made for 15s,” he said

The Skipper Cup competition will be more competitive in 2017 with only eight teams taking part compared to 12 last year.

The second trials will be held on Saturday at Gatward Park.
