Taione Lesumaiigiladi is determined to do his best when making his debut for the national cricket side.

The Lakeba native from Lau is part of the 18-member squad that will be participating in the upcoming East Asia Pacific Men’s competition in Bendigo, Melbourne in Australia.

“I’ve been playing cricket all my life,” he told SUNsports.

“This is my passion. I love the sport and I have been trying so hard to be part of the national team. Now to be chosen to represent our country, this is my biggest achievement.

“I think it’s about time I show my talent and prove that I’m worthy for selection. I have to be strong and persuasive in all my games because different players have different strategy but as a team we need to play together if we want to win.

“Fiji has got a lot of good bowlers and especially the young players making their way into the squad. It’s a big challenge for us older players as we have to fight for a spot but I’m humbled to be given a chance to play for my country,” Lesumaiigiladi said.

The lanky 29-year-old bowler said it wasn’t any easy journey to be part of the squad but it was the support shown by captain, Jikoi Kida and Joe Rika that enabled him to come this far.
