Vodafone Fiji presented a cheque of $150,000 to the Fiji Football Association yesterday for the 2017 Vodafone Premier League.

The sponsorship will be increased to $200,000 later this year with an extra $50,000 directed to the Youth League for the Under-16 and U17 grades.

Vodafone Fiji sponsorship manager Adriu Vakarau commended the effort by the games committee last year.

“Vodafone is once again proud to be behind this competition,” Vakarau said.

“2016 was our first year to sponsor the league and we saw the benefits which was tremendous and we are looking forward to another successful season.

“We thank the officials for the hard work they put together in 2016 and we hope to see it again this year.

“This year we are excited to contribute further in uplifting the profile of the sport by providing newly designed and conceptualized jerseys to the top eight premier teams.”

League Committee chairman Yogeshwar Singh acknowledged the sponsorship.

“We thank Vodafone for this kind gesture,”Singh said.

“We also acknowledge the support of the media as no matter how good you are, if you don’t have the support of the media, it will be hard to promote and develop the sport.”

Singh also welcomed newcomers Rakiraki into the competition.
