File Of Alleged Rape Of Female Inmate Handed Over To ODPP
The investigation file of the alleged rape incident at the Labasa Corrections Centre last year has been forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
This was confirmed by Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro yesterday.
It is alleged that a female inmate while in the custody of the Labasa Corrections Centre was raped by an officer last December.
Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) had conducted their investigation and had terminated the services of the said officer.
It was confirmed in a statement from the FCS last year.
A team from the Fiji Human Rights and Anti Discrimination Commission led by its director, Ashwin Raj, also visited the facility last month. The alleged incident is understood to have been committed on December 11.
