Newly inducted Waiqele Secondary School headboy Pavitra Chand aspires to become a lab technician. This is so he can help his diabetic father live a healthy life.

The 17-year-old of Waiqele Hot Springs in Labasa said seeing his father working in the vegetable farm everyday motivated him to study hard.

“I feel honoured to be the headboy as this has brought smiles on my parents’ face,” Pavitra said.

“I was in fact surprised to hear that the teachers selected me to be the headboy since I am in Year 12,” he said.

He said he was told by the teachers that he was a disciplined student with leadership quality which led them to select him as headboy.

“This is one step ahead towards my dream to help my parents live a peaceful and financial free burden life,” the younger of two siblings said.

Meanwhile, Laisa Dilabe, the headgirl of the school said that she was also surprised to be inducted as the head girl.

“My mother is a teacher in this school and my father is a plumber at Water Authority of Fiji and both of them have always taught me to live a disciplined life,” the 18-year-old Savusavu lass said.

“Leadership comes with responsibility and I credit this badge to honour my lovely parents who have instilled moral values in me. The teachers have noticed it and decided to choose me as the headgirl.”
