Intercontinental Fiji Welcomes 2017 USP Interns

The InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa welcomed six tertiary students from the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management based at the University of the South Pacific (USP) for a one year internship; continuing their partnership for the 5th year.

As part of the specialty Hotel Management degree programme, this apprenticeship allows students to directly experience the hospitality and tourism industry, develop their skills and practical experience, build a network of contacts, strengthen resumes and learn about the various departments within a resort prior to graduating in 2019.

In order to be accepted into the programme, students must be recognised as high potential candidates by their institution to be eligible for consideration.

The six students were part of just under a thirty candidates interviewed at the annual USP Careers Fair with different Resort representatives.

Area General Manager South Pacific at InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, Mr Andrew Davidson, said they placed a high emphasis on training.

“We prefer our interns learn and accumulate as much practical experience as possible, giving them an opportunity to apply the theory learnt in the classroom to real-world situations,” Mr Davidson said.

“This programme equips interns with the comprehension and expertise needed to excel in different facets of the hotel industry as well as investing in themselves and their future.”

The InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa is committed to supporting educational institutions, develop talent and securing future leaders by partnering with educational institutes.
