It was an emotional and proud moment for grandmother, Ema Qiolevu when her grandson was selected to be the headboy of Nakasi High school yesterday.

Year 13 student, Laisiasa Qiolevu, said he was humbled when given the responsibility to lead the school.

“I owe everything to my grandparents especially my grandmother who raised me,” Laisiasa said.

“It has been very challenging especially financially but she never gave up on me.

“He’s always been an obedient and disciplined boy all through out and I’m not surprised at all about his induction today,” Mrs Qiolevu said of her grandson.

Laisiasa wants to become an agriculture teacher and to follow in his late grandfather’s footsteps.

Headgirl, Shivali Shandil said it wasn’t going to be easy leading the school but she would do her best to lead by example.

Shivali attributed her success to her parents and also wants to be a teacher.

“I’m so honoured that my daughter has been selected to become headgirl of this school,” said father, Sarju Shandil.

Nakasi High School has a roll of 267 from Year 9-13 and a staff of 30.

46 prefects which included year captains, special room monitors, and senior prefects were inducted at the school.
