A man of Savusavu settlement in Nailaga, Ba, was released on bail by the Ba Magistrates Court for his alleged involvement in a car accident that led to a man’s death.

Jagdishwar Prasad appeared before Magistrate Mosese Naivalu in a special court seating yesterday.

The accused is charged with one count of dangerous driving occasioning death, two counts of occasioning grievous bodily harm by dangerous driving, one count of failure to comply with requirements following an accident, one count of driving motor vehicle without being the holder of a valid driving licence, and one count of driving motor vehicle in contravention of third party policy risk.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Lenaitasi Sautaki appeared for the State while Sheetal Chetty of SK Ram Lawyers appeared on behalf of the accused.

The court heard that the accused is alleged to have caused the death of a man in Nailaga, Ba last Wednesday.

Magistrate Naivalu granted bail with a $1000 cash bail bond and ordered the surrender of travel documents and a stop departure order.

The accused has been ordered to relocate to his next of kin who lives outside of Ba. Edited by Jonathan Bryce
