Mum expects Mere to lead by example

It was a moment of pride for Mere Mataika when she was given the role of headgirl of the Delainamasi Government School on Friday.
Her mother, Salote Roma, said she was speechless and was thankful to the school for entrusting her daughter to lead by example for the year.
“We are both working parents and so she is the one responsible for looking after her three younger siblings, especially when we work in the weekends,” said Ms Roma.
Ms Mataika aspires to become a pilot some day and attributes her success to her parents and her grandfather.
“I hope to do my best in taking up this leadership role in the school,” said the proud headgirl.
Headboy Semesa Nixon was grateful when selected to take up the leadership role in the school as well.
“I’ll do my best in this position and what I was told today I have to lead by example and I have to work really hard,” said Semesa.
Semesa and his family moved from Vanua Levu a few years back and attributes his achievement to his hardworking parents. He aspires to become a pilot as well.
Parents, guardians and family members turned up in large numbers to support their children during the prefects induction held at the school.
Delainamasi Government School has a school roll of 1194.
