Twelve-year-old Vicky Wu is grateful to be a nominee for the 2016 Fiji Sports Award which will be held at the Vodafone Arena on February 17.

The Year Seven student of Yat Sen Primary School is nominated by Fiji Table Tennis for the Young Male category.

The other nominees are Huzaifa Rahman (Asia Pacific Taekwondo), Rys Montel Cheer (Triathlon) and Sitiveni Timi (Swimming).

“I was surprised when they called me and told me the news,” Wu said.

“At this young age I was not expecting this to come so early but I’m very grateful and I want to thank the Fiji Table Tennis for nominating me.”

Wu started playing table tennis when he was nine.

“I always see my brothers playing the sport so I decided to give it a try and I fell in love with it.

“Table tennis is the only sport I play.”

He made his debut for Fiji in 2014 during the Oceania Games in Australia and won a silver medal in the Under-12 category.

“That year was the highlight of my sporting career, winning the silver medal was a huge achievement for me and I will continue to strive for more.

“I want to thank my parents and family for their support.”

The Fiji Sports Awards nominees’ clinic was held at the ANZ Stadium’s corporate booth yesterday.
