Three players were red carded in the Vodafone Premier League 2017 showdown between Rewa and Nadi at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori yesterday.

Referee Finau Vulivuli issued a red card to Rewa’s Iosefo Verevou and Nadi’s Mataiasi Toma and Waisake Tabucava for unprofessional conduct.

What happened:

Rewa beat Nadi 2-0 with Verevou scoring from a penalty after Tabucava was penalised for a hand ball offence.

Halftime: Rewa 1 Nadi 0

In the second half Rewa’s Savenaca Nakalevu extended the lead after a through pass from Epeli Saukuru.

Big play: Rewa goalkeeper Benito Waqavou performed well.

Comments: Nadi team director Javed Ahmed; “I am happy with our performance but not with some of our decisions by the officials.  I thought the red cards issued was a bit harsh but we need to cope and learn to progress. We can’t afford to play with nine men.”

Rewa coach Maika Rodu said;

“In the second half I told the boys to get serious. The 2-0 scoreline is a comfortable start for us. I’m also disappointed that Iosefo was red carded as our players need to be cool under pressure.” Edited by Leone Cabenatabua
