The newly appointed head girl of Ballantine Memorial School (BMS) wished her parents attended her induction at Delainavesi, Lami.

Adi Sovowaqali Turagabeci, 18, from Somosomo Village in Taveuni was proudly handed over the responsibility as head girl at the school’s prefects’ induction yesterday.

Adi Sovowaqali said: “I feel so good and overwhelmed and I never expected to be head girl this year, but I really wished my parents were here to see me.”

Her grandmother, whom she lived with in Suva during the school holidays, had accompanied her to the induction.

She joined the school four years ago as a Year Nine student and previously attended Yaqeta Village School.

The future tourism student said: “I know I have a big responsibility and that is a challenge.

“There were so many times when I wanted to run back home when I was boarding at the school’s hostel but I stopped and told myself that I should be strong and not give up,” she said.

She is thankful to God for the strength he has blessed her with throughout the years as she never expected to get this far without His glory.
