As the new school term begins, Sacred Heart College appointed its new prefects last Friday.

Laisani Navakarokaro, 17, and Ambiose Lloyd Rakesa, 19, were named head girl and head boy respectively.

Laisani said: “I cannot wait to take on the responsibility as head girl, but at the same time I have to learn to balance my time in school as a head girl and student.”

The netball player said it would be tough leading the school with nearly 600 students enrolled this year, but she plans to manage it with the help and support of the prefects and head boy.

Ambiose, who is from Qamea, shares the same joy as Laisani.

“My friends and I were so surprised when we found out that I was named as the head boy,” he said with a smile.

With the responsibility placed on his shoulders, he said time management was something he would have to take on from today. He is the third of five siblings in his family.

“Manners maketh a man” is a well-known phrase Ambiose lives by everyday.

He believes through manners, people will learn to respect others despite their age, religion or race.

Sacred Heart College at Laucala Bay, Suva, was formerly known as Cathedral Secondary School.

The name change was made last year.
