Twenty-four students named as school prefects.

Toni Harm Nam and Vincent Law are ready to lead Yat Sen Primary School this year.

The senior students were the newly inducted heads during the prefect induction ceremony yesterday at the school hall. Twenty-four students were inducted as school prefects.

Vincent said his role as a leader would help him learn leadership skills.

“Leadership skills are not easy to carry and practice,” he said.

“But it is never too hard unless we stop practicing and believing in ourselves that we can do it.

“I know I will have to work hard and manage my time wisely in order to fulfil the expectations of a leader.”

Toni said balancing leadership roles and academic work was the key to a good leader.

“I have learned from my parents that being a good leader means you have to learn how to balance your priorities,” she said.

“And that is what I will do to stay focused on my academic curriculum and extra activities.

“During our breaks and wherever we are required, we will definitely stand out to maintain our roles as heads of the school.

“Our juniors can think that we are bossy or controlling them but we will have to give them time to understand our positions as well.”

She intended to get the students to look at her more of a sister and not a head girl,” she said.

The primary school in Flagstaff, Suva, has more than 300 students enrolled.
