Lelean Memorial School’s newly inducted headboy, Samisoni Mua, said the badge was a responsibility that we should not only be proud of but it comes with many sacrifices.

The Year 13 student, from Waikete, Nakelo, was overjoyed when he was named the school’s head boy during the prefect induction ceremony on Friday.

“I believe that behind every sacrifice there are great achievements that follow,” he said.

Samisoni is also an athlete.

“I have many good intentions for the school and the students, especially involving the school discipline.

“I want to work with the administrators and teachers that could help other students to bring up their academic results so no one is left out.

“I want to bring up the school’s overall result like how it was back in the days with high marks and many achievements.”

He plans to balance everything. “This is a very big school filled with many talented students and I know it will not be easy for us to perform our duties,” the teenager said.

Sivoki Keresoni, 18, of Naroi Moala, Lau said there was nothing more important than supporting the students as headgirl of the school.

“We, as leaders, have to support the students because we are here for them,” the aspiring doctor said.

“We are given this opportunity by our teachers to make sure that we maintain a good relationship between them and the teachers.

“It is a challenge for us to balance everything but nothing is impossible if we work hard and put our 100 per cent effort to it.

“Most of the students have lack of interest in academics and that is what I want to focus the most on as the headgirl.

“To help them bring up this interest.”

Sivoki plays netball and wants to continue that passion after school.
