Former Vodafone Fijian 7s head coach Ben Ryan believes Masivesi Dakuwaqa and Apisai Domolailai should be considered for the Las Vegas and Vancouver 7s tournaments.

The Vodafone Fijians fell short in their campaign to win last weekend’s Sydney Sevens at the Allianz Stadium.

Speaking to SUNsports, Ryan said he believes that forwards Domolailai and Dakuwaqa should recover from their injuries in time for the next leg.

Domolailai is still undergoing rehab on his injured knee while Dakuwaqa was injured during the Cape Town 7s in December, last year.

“The loss to New Zealand in Sydney is not a bad thing, it only highlights a few small things to work on,” he said.

“I thought Fiji were great in the last two tournaments and let’s all get behind the team and scream and shout for them in Vegas and Vancouver.”

While fans expected the team to finish in a better position in Sydney, Ryan says, he was happy with how they performed and remained in the top three after four legs.

“New head coach Gareth Baber also needs time to settle in. I was really filled with optimism after the first two World Sevens Series tournaments under him.

“The team have kept its Fijian style and the boy’s looked tight as a team and more importantly they were happy.

“Of course the results were not to everyone’s liking but let’s remember it is a new chapter and you must allow a new coach to bed in and feel his feet.

“He was appointed in a very transparent and fair process and the best candidate that obviously is going to be prepared to work very hard and be clever.

“Fiji still stands in the top three and there are a lot of tournaments to be played.

“I have no doubt the management and the team will see what needs tinkering to knock over those above them and it is all very exciting.”

The USA 7s in Las Vegas will be the next leg of the World Sevens Series which will be held on March 3-5.
