Student Leaders Proud Of Their Community School

I am going to encourage my colleagues not to have low esteem: Headboy
Students should not leave their village school in search of better education in urban areas, says the newly inducted headboy of Valebasoga Secondary School yesterday.
Shiraz Ali, 17, of Valebasoga in Labasa said it was a proud moment for him as he had attended Valebasoga Primary School from Year One and then continued through to the secondary school.
“I am really thankful to my parents for making the decision of putting me in this school which is in my village and because of their choice, I am the headboy of a prestigious school today,” the aspiring agriculture field officer said.
“I believe that students should not pressure their parents to send them to urban schools when they have a school in their village.
“I have seen my school developing and having improved pass rates over the years.
“I am fully aware that the Ministry of Education has standardised education for all school.
“So as the headboy of the school I am going to encourage my colleagues not to have low esteem, but instead have pride to have a space in a school that is willing to provide all the facilities and education,” he said.
Meanwhile, Valebasoga Secondary School headgirl Zalika Nisha also shared similar sentiments having also she started her education from Valebasoga Primary School and now secondary level.
“I want to be a role model in the school and encourage everyone to study diligently,” the Year 12 student said.
The aspiring dietician said their principal highlighted that the school started in 1991, has grown gradually and now it offers education to the community up to Year 13 level.
During the induction of 19 prefects, the school heard that last year, the school had achieved a 85.7 per cent pass rate in their Fiji Year 12 Certificate Examination and a 100 per cent pass rate in the Year 13 Certificate Examination.
The student roll from Year Nine to Year 13 is 101.
