Headgirl Aims to Become Lawyer to Help Father

Vunimoli Islamia Primary School’s newly-elected headgirl Shamia Hussein aims to become a lawyer to assist her father.
After the induction of 20 prefects yesterday, the 12-year-old from Vunimoli in Labasa, said she only gets to see her father during the weekend.
Her 33-year-old father works in a logging company as a driver and mechanic working extra hours to make ends meet.
“We are three sisters and the youngest one is a special student at Labasa School for Special Education,” the Shamia said.
“My mother tries her very best to give proper attention to her while my older sister, who is a Year 10 student at Vunimoli Islamia College, is focused on her study.
“Since I am the middle one in the family sometimes I try my best not to be a troublemaker at home and support my parents in the decisions they make.
“Life hasn’t been jolly for us, but when I see my parents, I feel motivated to do something new to bring smiles on their faces,” the Year 8 student said.
“My parents will be so proud when they will see the badge on me.
“I am confident that this new role will teach me how to take care of the 170 students and it will definitely help me become a better lawyer in future.
“I want to be the first lawyer in my family so that I can support my parents and help the people in my community,” she said.
“I would like to thank my class teacher Mohammed Irshaad for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to be the headgirl of a school which I have been studying at since Year 1.”
