Esiteri Kikau aims to win gold during the 2017 Coca-Cola Games at the ANZ Stadium on April 20-22.

The Vadra, Moala, Lau native first participated at the annual event for Lelean Memorial School in the Open girls 3000m last year and finished in fourth place.

The Year 10 student has learned from the experience last year.

“Last year was my first experience at the games and I was just in Year 9 and finishing in fourth place was not a bad result for me. But it has motivated me to do better this year.

“I’m working hard to finish better,” Kikau said.

The 15-year old lives with her family in Nadera, Nasinu and trains twice a day with her dad Manasa Kikau.

“Every morning at 4am I always have my road run with my dad and we do it again in the afternoon at 6pm.

“I also train in school and I believe the Coca-Cola Games calls for more commitment and dedication from every individual and that is what I’m working on,” she said.

Kikau has maternal links to Samoa.
